I wanted to share a cool Chrome extension that I have been using for some time now with the Tech Tips family. I use it mostly in Gmail but it has a lot of other features that you might find useful.
Grammarly is a Chrome extension that helps with both spelling and grammar in most applications that run in the Chrome browser. OK I say most because Grammarly does NOT work in the GSuite apps (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawing), but it DOES work well in Gmail.
To get the extension go to the chrome web store and search for Grammarly.
You will note that the web store no longer offers Google apps if you are on a Mac or PC. Users with Chromebooks will see Extensions, Themes, Apps and Games in their web store.
Once added to your Chrome account you can access the Grammarly editor via the button on the toolbar or just wait till it underlines your text as you are typing.
To invoke the editor just hover your mouse over the word highlighted with red text and some choices will appear on the screen. Choose the correct spelling and you are done.
Note that Grammarly only works in the main body of the email and if you make a mistake in the subject it does not get picked up.
When in Google Docs you can use the Grammarly editor if you wish and then copy and paste the text into your Google Doc. Click on the Grammarly icon
Now click the Grammarly editor link to be taken into the editor.
Your Grammarly account can be linked to your school Google account. Just click the continue with Google button and choose your account from the list.
Once logged into the Grammarly editor you have some options with the free account including seeing your spelling and grammar mistakes as well as word count.
The premium account costs $139 a year but gives you some cool features including plagiarism checking, sentence structure, vocabulary enhancement and proofreading services. Some districts have chosen to get Grammarly for their school (which is a lot cheaper than the individual price) to help their students to improve their writing.
